Hello all hope somebody has an answer for me.....I have replaced my 318 with a 440 and I want to replace my rad....I found one for sale and the model is 3574601 which is from 1972 I believe I think it came from an Imperial. My car has air does anyone know if this rad will work for my application the guy that owns it lives a few hours away so I can`t look at it and he has no pic`s but says it is a 3 core rad from a 440 car. My 440 is from 1967 and it is now in my 72 SSP. I have all the big block brackets and pulleys for air conditioning. Any help would be appreciated.

It 'should' work as long as the inlet and outlet ports on the rad match your water pump housing outlet...and that it is a 26", 3-core.

That's just from my memory, others may have more accurate input.

According to the part number:

1972, 28" radiator, 440, auto, HVAC-All (meaning both with or without A/C), and specific to the Imperial.

Also, a three row? I thought that A/C cars should be a four row rad, not for sure.

There were no factory 4-row rads that I've ever encountered.

As long as the upper neck is on the pass. side and the lower neck is driver's side, and it's 26", you should be OK.

You may have to modify the pass. bracket to clear the frame rail, but it's an easy fix with a saw or grinder.

I'd stay away from used rads. You don't know the history or the condition. It might not last if you do get it. Get a new one and save yourself the headache. If you decide to get it does the guy have the air shroud?

Yes he has the fan shroud, I have 2 rads that are in great shape but they vent in the wrong places basically because of the small block that I took out. I might bite the bullet and get a new one BOY parts are becoming non existend for our cars I guess that is why everyone wants big $$$$ for parts.

Glen Ray has radiators but be prepared to spend $$$$, FYI

At this point my desire to take her out for a ride is greater than the money its going to cost me for a rad ...........Man what a difference

Agreed, driving a few hours for a used rad. unless it's from a good friend, is quite a gamble!
The water pump housing was changed (around '73, I think) to put the hose on the opposite side.
If you can find one of those closer to home, you can use your small block radiator.
In the old days radiator shops would cut off the hose nipple, cover the hole,and move it wherever you wanted.
If you just need the bottom nipple moved(and they don't charge too much) I'd try it. It would let you use a radiator you've already got, and being on the bottom, would be almost invisible.
Now if you're Driving in stop and go traffic all the time in the summer, you'll eventually want a 3 or 4 row.
But if it's mostly highway use, or drag strip, the two row will be OK.
Now I'm also assuming that you've got 26" radiators, and they aren't plugged!

I know others on moparts have had pretty good success with champion - have any of you guys used the american eagle brand of their rads? how was the fitment?

I have a cheap Silla 26" aluminum radiator in mine. Does the job and had been torture tested on several accounts. I see a lot of guys locally by me running Champion radiators and they love 'em. Supposed to be direct fit, and what I like about them over mine is they even weld the filler neck on (while mine is just crimped). I wish they were around when I bought mine!
