Bumper jacks
I've been trying to find the correct jack for my '71 and it is proving to be difficult.
There was a complete set up on Ebay a couple of months back but I missed the boat.
I think the pole/ratchet might be a one year only but am not sure. Does anyone know if '70 might be the same length? If so, I should be able to piece the thing together. I know they changed in '72 where the pole's teeth are not exposed.
Since I'm on the topic, wouldn't the hook scratch the bumper if anyone had to use the thing? You'd figure they would have lined the hook with rubber or something.

Re: Bumper jacks
Well, if they were building these cars today. They might of put rubber on the jack to protect the bumper when you used it. But back then? They didn't care. After all, you weren't going to get a flat anyway, right?!! I wouldn' want to trust the factory one anyway. They weren't exactly the best design in the world for safety.
Re: Bumper jacks
I believe the 70 post is "T" shaped and the 71 is tubular. The correct hook is the hard part.
72 was the first year of the universal hook-in-slot style, so that won't work for you.

Re: Bumper jacks
Do you know if the '70 post is the same height as the '71 though? It seems to me our bumpers are quite a bit higher off the ground than those low rider '70's he he

Like, totally!
Not sure on the height thing. I'm thinking a C-body mast would be the tallest.

Re: Bumper jacks
Maybe it's a mid-year vendor change thing and they went from "T" to Tube sometime in 71. ??

Re: Bumper jacks
Original jacks in my Aug 70 LA car and my Dec 70 St Louis car are both tubular
AKA Butterscotch71....the road runner nest is out to win you over this year!
Re: Bumper jacks
Well thats good news, both seem correct. Not like I'm going to actually use it other than trunk bling.
This forum is amazing in that each thing im working on on the car, someone posts a timely question ie: the trunk seal thread. I just happen to be about to buy one and probably would have got the wrong one.
