How to tell which rearend you have?

Ok so for most things I'm able to do for myself with no problems, one part I have never messed with on any car is the rear end.

How do I tell which rear end I currently have in the car?
Which one is preferred for a 425HP stroked Mopar Performance 360?
Where can I find that if I don't have it?

LOL The car was orginally a Satellite Sebring, the previous two owners say they never touched the rearend. It is not a sure-grip/posi as only one wheel leaves marks, embarrassing LOL

Oh and another question, how difficult will it be to find an Air Grabber hood to put on my car?

Thanks

Bill

To answer your question about the air grabber hood, you can find
the repo stuff on e-bay or I just saw a complete hood for sale on
Moparts in the b-body parts for sell section.

So I've reached the point where I'm thinking about upgrading the rear. Now that I know which rearend I have, 8 3/4 I have also found out I have a 3.23 non-suregrip center section 741 case, the boss stamp is 2070741

I'm wanting to move up to 3.55 with posi/suregrip. will I find that in a 741 case, or will that be a 742 case? are they swappable? will I also have to change the axles? anything else I'll have to change?

there's three cases or "third members" that swap into the 8 3/4. The 741, 742 and 489. If your shopping for a replacement for the 741, get a 742 or 489 as they a stronger.

8 3/4" rear ends are plenty strong. All the carriers fit all axles etc. The best part is you can have a new gear ratio in about an hour, just have more than one chuck. We use to drive my buddies car to the local track (150 miles away) with 3:23's change the chuck at the track to 4:30's with a spool, race all day, change back to the 3:23's and drive it home. It is the best of both worlds. You should upgrade to the u-bolt type yolk on the diff they are way stronger.
