Ralley Mirrors problem...

Post by ravindavid » Wed Aug 19, 2009 12:15 am

It 's time to install the mirrors on my 72 road runner, but I've run into a problem. The spread between the mounting holes on the doors is 3", but the hole spread on the mirrors is 5". I didn't take the mirrors off (done over two years ago) so am not sure what is missing. I have three sets of mirrors and they're all the same. One door has been replaced with one from a 71 road runner, and both doors have the 3" spread.
Can anyone tell me what I need and where to get it? thanks!!

The mirrors you have are for a 73 and up car. 71-72 had the closer spacing. It's POSSIBLE that late 72s had the wider spacing.
AKA Butterscotch71....the road runner nest is out to win you over this year!Image

One of the three sets of mirrors is the original set off the car, and all three sets are the same. I know that one of the doors is off a 71 road runner I had as a parts car, and it has a three inch spread, the other door is the original. That's what has got me confused.

That Is odd...Maybe some wheres along the line your original mirrors got misplaced, and like you said you didn't take them off personally, who did?You should ask them about this if you haven't already.I don't see how you can have original door when the original mirror doesn't fit on it,truley weird.

Hmmm how about this.....Have you (or anyone before you got the car) done any body work to the original door since the mirrors were taken off?Did you(they) by any chance fill an extra hole around that area?Maybe someone made an extra hole on each door a long time ago to fit the 73-74 mirrors.I'm sure you would know whether you did or not but I'm just trying to think of ways how this would happen....You might have to go and find the right size mirrors(yeah, but if they original, wtf!),or if you don't mind you could just make an extra hole on each door so you can fit them on.Its up to you though obviously.ha ha

Im gonna go do something productive now.

I think they make them new now for 71-72's. I will try to find where I saw them.

You can buy new mirrors from www.pgclassic.com It looks like e-body mirrors are the same as 71-72 b-body
