I know It may be a long shot but does anyone know of any clear coat that can be applied to metal without primer or paint being on it already? Its not for my car but for a motorcycle I just got done building.I want a raw metal look but I don't want It to rust.If there Is something out there I may actually use It on my car. Thanks ahead of time!

Ill have to look into that.I decided that for the bike i do want the illusion that it is rusting.I read in a bike mag a guy let metals rust in a container, took them out to air dry then he scraped off all the rust dust and small pieces,he then mixed all of it in with a clear coat,so when sprayed it gives it the effect that the metal is rusty or pitted.
Only problem i see with that is having to wait a while and ruining a paint gun.But no worries,i wouldnt use my own anyway.

I found an acrylic enamel clearcoat made by Duplicolor at Auto Zone. . .in a rattle can, and it's an engine enamel, so it has some ceramics in it as well. About six bucks. That may be a lot easier, and cheaper.

Check out some of the "rat-rod" sites. The use of flats and rust, or "patinas" as they call them is very popular with the crowd. I'm doing my 53 rigid Harley chopper a flat black job with the flat clears. Another site, Try kustomshop or hotrodflatz. Good luck man.
