Long or Short Pistol grip shifters 71 B Body

Post by AZ-Nick » Fri Oct 08, 2004 1:03 am

My 71 GTX has a short pistol grip shifter in it and I have seen longer pistol grip shifters in the same year B Bodies, what determines which length goes in which car?
I hope that makes sense to sombody!

The short handles were used in bucket seat cars with or without console, but without the center arm rest. The longer handles were used in bench seat cars or buckets with the center arm rest. Not only are the handles different, the shifter actually comes through the floor in different places depending on the application, and there are 2 different 4spd trans tunnels as well. :)

Dave, thanks for the reply, since I bought the GTX I have to learn about a new breed of car, I have been into early B Body's for too many years.
