i was thinking a 625 AVS, guys on moparts thought a 4160 holley (585-600 cfm) - that's actually what someone had on my 440 when i got it.
it probably breaks down even further to what transmission, california spec or not, and then probably to if it was a dual/single point, etc. etc.

You need to be more specific if you want part numbers. Auto or manual trans? Air grabber or not? There were different part numbers for each, but all 71 383 runners would have Holley carbs.

Sorry I forgot to be more specific. Manual trans, four barrel, and air conditioning. Thanks for the numbers there Joseph.

I have to disagree. My 1971 Charger came stock with the 383 4-bbl and it had a Carter AVS. This is also an A/C car.
6125s - 625cfm - Came on my 71 Superbee 383 Auto - No air , no ramcharger hood
Have the broadcast sheet

I go between moparts and the nest to see if there is consistency in the information. I think the nest is the better of the two depending on what your car is. Sometimes moparts gets frustrating cause you get a lot of the aerogant types who refuse to listen to anyones input.
Concerning the carbs, it seems like cars with and w/o Air conditioning could have come with either holley or carter avs. The deciding factor, from what I'm seeing, is what type of transmission the car came with. I've got a 4 speed so more than likely it probably had a holley. I don't have the factory carb but a lot of guys are saying that they were 600-650cfm? I'm going to have to find a re-pop one, mopar performance is makin'em, and I'll probably go with a 750cfm. 600cfm just seems really small for a big block.

Personally, I'm on a low carb diet, so I couldn't answer this question if I wanted too. Too fattening.

you do not need a 71factory carb
you put can on any year 64- 78 factory carbs
a holley or avs or afb on 383

Ok, if you're not looking for a factory part numbers correct carb, just the correct style, you'd want the Holley 4160 series.

Alright thanks eric. I'm looking at going with a 750cfm version. I just plan on putting in a cam close to hemi cam specs and the rest of the motor will remain stock. Does anyone think this might be too much carb? Which would be a better holley carb, vacuum secondaries or double pumper?

Pat, I used to be a big poster on Moparts, have settled down since I stopped/don't chase the factory-correct resto bug anymore. Straight up, send a private note (PM) to Streetwize over on Moparts. He'll help you out Big Time with matching fuel/air, intake, cam and exhaust. Mismatched stuff is a bear to sort out and your car will run like crap.
my 2cents: either do it factory stock with ALL factory parts, or seek our Streetwize.
