Automatic console removal

Post by RRUNR3 » Thu Oct 07, 2004 10:27 pm

Hello there. The vehicle is a 1974 Road Runner with the slapstick shift automatic and I wanted to know how to remove the console from it's place so I could touch it up. I have a few ideas; however, I wanted a better one before I went any further.

Thanks

How to remove automatic slapstick console.
1) remove shifter usually a phillips screw in the T handle
2) remove console hold down panel screws (these should also be phillips.)
3) after screws are out lift simulated wood console plate (should be aluminum with the chrysler stamp on the bottom)
4) remove interior shifter linkage machine screws
5) lift shifter console off of tranmission tunnel

note: I have found refinishing the consoles is best done with a heating plastics kit for heat molding as well as a keen eye with fine wet sanding and a good spray on vinyl
I own a 340 850hp Dick landy industries spec engine god rest his soul.
