Road Runner Nest

I have a 70 383 in my 74 RR. Been running like crap. Pulled the valve covers and checked the rocker arms and found some play in them. I've been all over the net, but cant find what the specks are for a rocker arm. I was able to measure a .045 gap between the shaft and the arm. Is this my problem? Cant find any info on this. Thanks to all.

There is no adjustment on stock mopar rockers. The lifters take up the slack when everything is working correctly. Did you check the push rods? one or more may be bent. You didn't say if you are hearing any noise from the valves. If not it sounds like you have other issues.

it would have to be way flat lifter or your pushrods are bent/not the right length. don't think you have the same problem i had, as my rocker was still tight to my pushrod tip. unless you have aftermarket rockers, they aren't adjustable, as already said. .045 is pretty close to the .030 you're supposed to allow for lifters to pump-up, but i'm not really sure......

vallve tappet clearance to valve is zero for intanke and exhaust
intake opens at 21 degress below tdc

Thanks everyone. I guess the point I'm trying to make is that the rockers have developed an elliptical hole from the shaft. About .045. I know the lifters will compensate for some slop, but could the time required for the play to be taken up, and the lifter to compress, delay the valve action enough to cause a problem with starting and drivability?
