Need to find out new ones for my SSP. How repro panels fit or are they just crap?

Legendary has them

Yes, I know Legendary has them, but how do they fit. I have heard so much "horror stories" about repro door panels (not b-body) that I want to be sure before order.

I personally haven't bought my door panels from them yet, but know people who has. They fit VERY good. 20+years ago I needed new bucket seat covers for my RR. Black withTor-Red inserts. I took mine off and sent them to Legendary to have them made, I know my resto is a SLLLOOOOWWW process in the making. They fit and look like the originals.

I can't say for sure about Legendary's 71-4 door panels, but everything I've ever gotten from them has been first rate. I think the worst was a set of door panels for a '66 el Camino that had one clip mounting tab glued in the wrong place.

PGI however is a different story... I just got one of their sets for my 71/2, and it's a mess. The listings were tearing cause they had to be pulled so far and so hard to get around to the mounting points, and even then, the center of the cover sags so bad they had to be stuffed with box after box of angel hair to get any sort of reasonable look. As soon as I can, and feel up to it, I'll order a set of Legendary and replace what I have with them.

Most of the horror stories you hear are about the hard plastic panels for the E bodies (and the lower panels on our cars). The uppers from legendary are very nice. They reuse the metal core from your old panels, so fit isn't a problem.

Eric, I was considering Legendary exclusivley for everthing int-wise that they offer..I WILL need their lower panels..are theirs bad?

I have some decent green ones, but I'd hate to dye then incase I ever need green.

I don't remember how the legendary lower panels are for our cars, but I'm thinking they aren't that good.
I do have a set of repop black panels, but don't remember where they came from.......that look pretty good. IIRC, they're made by Palco but I'll check when I get a chance.

I recovered my upper door panels with Legendary vinyl. Really nice quality and fitment. I re-used the old metal carriers and glued the new vinyl-pieces on myself. It takes a bit of time and patience but can be done with great result.

Capsule- What do you mean by "metal carriers"? Are you talking about the strip on top of the panel, that has the felt strip attached. BTW, did you post pictures of the panels before? I thought I saw them somewhere before. The medallion and the panels looks great!

The top half of the upper panel has a metal backing that's curved (lower half is cardboard). The metal section has to be reused with with legendary panels

Yes, as Eric says the upper half of the panel is a curved metal piece on which you glue the vinyl. The vinyl comes from Legendary with a thick cardboard already glued to the lower part. The metal part/carrier gives the finished panel its strength and shape.

I did indeed post the panel photo before in a thread about the Roadrunner medallions a while back.

legendary's lower palels have a grain that is nowhere close to correct. i would rather use scratched originals than theres. my seat covers are legendary and nice.

Thanks for that info on Legendary!!!...I bought a complete set of green interior plastic panels that aren't too bad from a junker on Saturday. I am going to dye them white. I have always used SEMS dye with good result. Year One carries exact color dye by year and model, but at $20 a can. I think I'm gonna go with the off the shelf SEMS white. It's a bright white. Looking at pics, the 71 seems to be a bright white. My original panels are soooo dry and faked away. White panels do not hold up so well.

As for the upper panels, I will go with the Legendary ones. I have alway had such good result with their product. I did no know that you have to use your metal backing of the original panel, so I learned something on this thread there too. I pulled an old 72 Satellite panel out of a small stack of semi-junk in mind of that fact. I will save that and the like as cores....

I bought what I believe were the Palco lower-door panels in white to replace faded, scratched originals that had giant speaker holes cut out in them. No fitment problems whatsoever. Big improvement over what I had. Made it look like a new interior! Simulated stitching wasn't as defined, but since you're replacing the entire panel, you can't really tell because there isn't anything to compare it with; for all anyone knows (except some sort of professional Mopar judge), your car could have very well came that way. It's silly to be up in arms over something so trivial, I think. I never looked back!
