Road Runner Nest

Okay, I'm trying to change out the ignition cylinder on the column. The old one from the previous owner locked up and was basically worthless. I'm down to the ignition release "port" or hole on the column, used a allen wrench to poke in the hole, and I've got the ignition in the locked position, but the damn thing won't come out.

Does this take a lot of pulling? The manuals all indicate to me at least, it shouldn't be this difficult. I'm a bit hesitant to really yank on the damn thing since I just broke my windshield the other day. ..

Any help for a 1974 Satty auto on the column?

It took a lot of brute force, a center punch, and a ball peen, but I got the old one out. Someohow--and this is only speculation--whoever changed the ignition cylinder out the last time didn't bother tearing the column down and just jammed the ignition cylinder in by force. The old one was in bad shape and the release button was buried in the chamber so it was useless. The old ignition cylinder was a bitch to begin with, causing more trouble than it was worth, but he new one is working smoothly and efficiently. Even replaced the signal switch activator while I was in there and cleaned up a lot of contact points.

Sometimes they can be a pain. Sometime they take some wiggling and yanking. Try using something smaller to release it. Good Luck!
