clutch spring??

Post by N96RR1972 » Wed Sep 17, 2008 7:47 pm

Does this happen to all 4-speed cars? ....The clutch in my 72 RR seems to push up REALLY fast, This may sound weird But it feels like someone is kicking my foot up as I lift the pedal......Has anyone experienced this? Thanks

Every manual shift Mopar I've owned has been equipped with a pretty stout clutch. Definitely takes some leg effort. Jumping between my Charger or GTX and my late model daily driver was always a trick. I'd darn near rip the shifter off and put my foot through the floor board after driving the Mopars.

Now if your over center spring is missing or broke, your pedal effort would be goofy.

I too have had and have several other manual shift mopars and none of them rise up like this one.....I agree when I get use to it, it seems normal untill I drive my wifes Challenger T/A it then seems like it pushes normal down BUT very quick up.....What do you mean by "Now if your over center spring is missing or broke, your pedal effort would be goofy." .. where is the center spring? ..Thanks

Picture is worth 1000 words.

Unless you are sure it's broken or detached, don't mess with it. There is a lot of tension on that spring.

That spring on my car is there and it is very big as in the picture you posted (BTW, thanks)...It just seems very quick and hard when I release the clutch...I thought maybe the pressure plate was the issue But, my son told me no, It is the way the car is....The car wants to launch when raising the pedal....I guess in some ways that can be a good thing. :)
