rear bench seat foam

I'm recovering my rear bench seat because I removed the horrid seat coverings as mentioned in another post only to reveal dry, crusted,rat-eaten foam; the kind that when scrunched forms a mushroom dust cloud. Everyone tells me to just put a thin layer of foam and the new seat coverings and call it a day, but I'm too OCD and/or anal for that. I'm going with all new foam, top and bottom.

It looks like this is just rolled foam, but I'm not sure as to whether it is stock or not. Anyone have the dimensions of the foam for the top and bottom pieces?

I'm measuring my foam (LxWxH) to be 59x32x1 (top) and 63x27x1.5 (bottom). Looks like they gave you a little more cushion for the botttom, which makes sense, presuming it's stock. I'm going with some premium firm foam and covering the springs in burlap potato sack material.

I'm wondering if I should go 1.5 for both top and bottom now, or even 2". I don't want it to look like the Mexican poof job, but padding seems like a good thing.

What are everyone's thoughts? Thanks in advance.

Geez, I've tried Home Depot (absolutely nothing), Lowe's (same result), Michael's (nothing nearly big or dense enough), JoAnn's Fabrics (lots of industrial-grade long-length foam, but nothing was wide enough!), even the mattress pad covers at Wal-Mart and Sears. Seriously, is it that difficult to find something that will work? I'm trying to avoid upholstery shops because they're just encouraging me to use my 35-year-old foam and just put some light extra padding to fill in the rat holes. Riiiight. While I'm at it, lemme spray the car a different coat with some rattle can... I guess I just want it done right. It doesn't have to win any awards, just be functional and not 35 years old.

I would have suggested Jo Anne's Fabrics, but you got that covered already. Hmmmmmm, have you tried surfing the internet? Cheese Bay?

Yeah, but it's not nearly wide or thick enough to do the rear bench. This is meant for street rods, I think. Unless you can customize foam size and whatnot. But I like how they include metal straps in addition to the burlap. Cool!

I did my seats and they came out good,i added about a half thicker foam,I did not use the burlap, I used canvas instead.I have some pics if you want.

Interesting about the canvas. Wonder if it will crack over time? I know factory was some sort of plastic (?) meshy thing, not burlap, and that seemed to hold up for 35 years...
