The bolt screws into a u-nut clipped to the inner flange of the rear sub frames. The flange is spot welded to the floor pans all around it, so I’m not sure of what the structural function it would have. The only thing that makes any sense to me is to secure the position of the sub frames prior to welding during assembly.

So would you remove the unut and bolt before dipping the car in order to clean under it????

I tightened mine up a bit and left it in place prior to having the shell media blasted. No sign of any rust issues anywhere near them. They should be pretty easy to remove, would think for dipping you may want to have them out of the way.
