Road Runner Nest

Okay so does anyone remember a post awhile back where we started talking about Road Runner and GTX hoods?Someone had mentioned(im pretty sure it ws Nick)that GTX hoods have the venting behind the bulge and the Road Runner hoods did not.Can anyone double check this?Is this 100% true?

Recently I had a guy comment one of my car vids,and he tells me my hoods not stock and all the other nonsense.(some people think you have no clue about your own car).And going by the post im referring to i told him it was a GTX hood,and so the guy starts bashing me,so ofcourse i bash back.He said the venting was the difference between both years.Wich to me doesn't make sense.

I just want to know if what was posted that day is right.

I think it's a year thing. The 73's had the venting and the 74's did not.

That's right. Same with Chargers. Hoods will interchange between 71 - 74, but all are diffrent due to the vents in the back. Not sure if 71 - 72 RR's had diffrent vent spacing in them or not.

I opened up my 1974 Chrysler-Plymouth Sales Booklet, dated 8/1/73 on the back page, and I turn to page 24 and look at a beautiful black RR with red stripes AND a vented hood with hood pins.

It's vented and it's 1974.

at least as far as these 51 year old and counting eyes can see, I can't find the vents on the 73.

So, the guy who sold me the 1974 GTX hood (with gtx emblems glued on) did tell me that you could tell a gtx hood from a roadrunner hood by the vents, must have been wrong, because I think it's a year thing with 73 ventless and 74 vented.

and btw, why is it his business to get all up in your face about YOUR car. It's YOUR car, you could put a Dodge Charger hood on it for all he'd care, ore a 1972 RR Hood. . .now that would be different.

But seriously i don't know what the guys problem is.The first thing he said was "Hey i like your Satellite, but i guess I'm a little partial, I have the gold version of your car. If you're going original I don't think that hood is stock, its from a Roadrunner."I replied nicely, and had told him it was a gtx hood,then he just had to argue with that.He even said he knows alot about mopars and that he bleeds hemi orange.(which makes me think,if hes such a know it all why say "I dont *think* that hood is stock"I mean,he would have defently known Satellites dont have those hoods.

I really enjoy talking with people about cars but theres people like this that brag and have to make them selves sound like mopar gods.

But the Mopar gods here don't brag and aren't rude.

Yeah, I fell for an old-timer--somebody only five years older than me--who rebuilds 'Cudas and Challengers for a living who told me that he was selling me a GTX hood and it was a GTX hood because it had vents in it.

(I'm not a god, I'm a mistake filled man. I know that because my wife tells me.)

On the subject of Bulge hoods with vents versus Bulge hoods without vents, isn't it a lot like a beautiful woman with big b**bs and big old healdlight nip****s versus a beautiful woman with big b**bs and medium sized silver dollar nip****s? (not to mention the satellite hood. . .and a beautiful woman flat as a washboard).

I wouldn't--and have never in my younger days--turned any of them down because they were the incorrect equipment for the moment. . . There's no such thing!

Here is a pic of my 73 GTX hood. Emblems were bolted on it and it has the vents. Who knows what' right.

i thought maybe the theory of the cars with bigger engines had vented hoods but from these pics its not true.But then again,you can always switch the hood decals.....

I would only look at untouched survivor cars as reference....a lot of things can be changed out on a car undergoing a "restoration"

It might depend on the build date of the car. I've seen both vented and non vented hoods on chargers that were 74 models and I know for a fact that both of them came from the factory that way. The one with the vents had an early build date the one without vents was built much later. Ma MOPAR had a habit of using up older parts. They saved a few bucks that way.

Now that I could believe. . .it's a similar situation with the 73 roof over strobe and the change over to the 74 roof over solid stripe on the Roadrunner package. A lot of early 74's came with the roof over strobe stripe from 73, but the later RR's came with the (74) roof over solid stripe.

Although to be honest, I've never ever seen a solid roof over stripe on a 74. . .hmmmmmmmm

Serious Sat.Do you solid as a continues striped connected all the way around or do you mean solid as in one solid color stripe?
