71/72 Body Side Mouldings Anyone Repro?

Post by challengergary » Mon Jun 09, 2008 9:54 pm

I am wondering if anyone is reproducing the lower body side mouldings for 71/72 Satelites. I have a car I am starting to work on that came with them originally and the ones I have are useless.

Thanks in advance for your help

Hey Gary
Welcome to the 'nest!
So are you considering putting the car back to original now? I'm not aware of anyone repopping the brite moldings. Used is your best bet.

Yeah, I am considering it. I started the body work yesterday and was actually able to beat the driver side fender pretty straight. I figure I am going to get it at least presentable before I try to sell it. Then, if it doesn't sell as a full project, I'll go ahead and paint it whatever color I decide. I am really torn about changing the color and "cloning" it. Bottom line is I need to sell it in about 3-4 weeks. We've just got a contract on my house and i will be losing my shop and downsizing into something where I'll only be able to have 1 project at a time. That said, I am going to work on the body until my grille & stuff gets here from the ebay seller and then I am going to put the front end back on it and try my luck as is. All the while, I will be planning the next necessary steps if it does not sell for what I need for it.

no, not repopped...it's funny, cuz every 72 i see has at least 1 piece missing lol......but, i bet, you could run the chrome strip molding that you can buy anywhere and stick on to get the point across...i'm not big on the moldings, BUT they should save you from door dings

Not sure how special they are. Like Landon said, I've never seen a project car with 6 good ones.

The car itself is kind of special. According to what I have been able to find out, it's Scheduled Production Date was July 14th which makes it the first day of '72 production for the 1972 model year. The car itself is a 318'er with nothing special as far as options goes; a/c, ps, pdb, auto, GY8 Gold paint, Black canopy vinyl, and a gold bench seat interior. VIN is #206 for the Saint Louis Plant. Eric said it is the second lowest VIN (other than the Pilot Car) that he has seen for 172.

Did not know that - thanks for the info.

I guess if I can't find a set that is affordable, I'll just delete them. Maybe add a double pinstripe ala GTX.

IIRC one of our members here has a 72 runner that a previous owner attached a set of the mouldings....he might be willing to sell them.

I have a complete set off my car. I'd be willing to sell or trade for any other parts maybe.

That looks exactly like the car that was featured in the Ashton Kutcher/Cameron Diaz film 'What Happens in Vegas'!

I about had apoplexy when I saw it. My folks who were visiting at the time thought I'd had a coronary. ;p
