i feel your pain...when i first was able to drive my car (6 months after i got it, so around my b-day in december), the heat didn't work at all...now, in the winter/cold weather, i take the 2 hoses and hook them together via a pipe, so that i have heat, then disconnect them when it's warm...my car had a/c originally, plus an aftermarket heater valve, but idk what to do to it yet...when i get to an actual resto, a compelete AC system is going in, so i'm ok with hookin up the hoses in october and un-hooking them in april or so.......you could do it the better and easier way by installing a hand-controlled valve under the hood...i thnk that even doing it my way, you can still feel a lil bit of heat coming through, though.

It's you temp control valve. It is on the right side of your fire wall. There should be a vacuum hose hooked to it. It controls the amount of hot water that goes through the heater core. You could by pass it, but then you would have no heat if it was needed. They are not too hard to find. The cost ranges from 50 to 150 for a nos unit. These things are different for each year. 71's are vacuum 72's are operated with a cable. 73 and 74 are also cable operated but are different from the 72's. If your not interested in keeping it factory you could buy a replacement at any auto parts store.
