Canopy Tops

Post by RS23-71 » Tue Jun 03, 2008 1:17 am

Ok I was under the impression that GTXs were never offered with canopy tops. Are these examples #1, #2 and #3 are these restrorations gone wrong or was there some way the dealership altered them to canopy tops or something?

I've seen many GTX's with canopy tops. I think it is a option, though not 100% sure. I've seen the car in #1 you posted. First of all, the canopy looks like it is not fully connected on the top. Second, I notice anti-freeze dripping. My favorite is the car in the #2 picture though. Hopefully someone here will give more of a difinite answer on the canopys :D

Ah I wonder where I got the idea that GTXs couldn't be optioned with the canopy top.

I could have sworn I looked at one of these and it said it was N/A. But the link proves me wrong ... strange how I get some of these stupid ideas in my head.

E means available, so you can get a canopy roof on any 2 door model

Well it lists the Satellite, Satellite Custom and Satellite Brougham as N/A for the canopy tops.

The V4_ canopy vinyl top was only available on road runner and SSP until mid January 71, after that it became available on all 2dr models. Consequently, you don't see the option on as many GTXs.

Yeah somewhere I got the idea that you couldn't get one on a GTX. Personally I like the canopy tops alot more then the full vinyl top. Still so much to learn.

idk i thought they were a lot cooler looking when i first got into the 4th gens, cuz they are different and give a more mean look compared to the full vinyl top or without, but i've come to like the more conservatively styled cars maybe more than the all-out performance style

I agree with RS23 '71,i like the canopy tops better too,not just because i have one,i think they make cars look more sporty,The full vynals on some cars make them look to plain and slow.

and having a halo roof is a plus because theres less rust you have to worry about. :D

idk some colors look strange with full vinyl tops...blue with black top is strange lookin, but white is sweet...maybe i just don't like black tops on cars other than black, cuz yours is sweet

No that looks fast..and very lickable.lol

but its black, the black vynal goes good with it,Like landon just said and as i said before it depends on the cars color, and perhaps the other body options.
