anyone run one of the air grabber replicas??
I am thinking about buying one of the replica air grabbers that fit on the stock 71-72 Satellite hoods. They have them over and BAEparts.com for $399. They have a good detailed underside pic, but I'd like to see the finished product on a car and hear some owners opinions.

Thats just the starting price. You will need to dish out a lot more to finish the project. Fastners, spring, hoses, clips, seals, ect.. I dont have the list on this computer so I wont get to detailed. Some of the attaching hardware is extremely hard to find Like the bell nuts. I have at least $900 into mine, all I need to get is the hose clips and an air cleaner. The only thing I did so far is cut the hood. All in all I think It is a good solid starting point, you wont be dissapointed. There's nothing like an Air Grabber!
I am not talking about a functional air grabber.
This is what I am talking about, http://www.beaparts.com/list_items.aspx?body=b&cat=none
Its a fake replica, the door stays either open or shut. It bolts onto the top of a stock Satellite hood.
It sells for $399

You could use that as a non functional set up if you want to. You still would have to cut a hole in the hood or the door wont close. You probably would want to get the door seals so you wont get water in there especially if you have a small block because the distributor is in the rear of the motor. I guess you could trim some from the bottom of the door to be able to open and close it with out cutting a hole. You also could make it operate with a cable. I'll bet after you get that on your car your gonna want to hook it up and have a functional setup. Trust me, I know it's a sickness with out a cure, but there is treatment for it.
Barry,
I don' think that works quite the way you think it should. I have my hood torn apart right now. Tell me what you need a picture of and I will email it to you. I would down load it for everyone but downloading photos to photobucket takes forever with my computer.
One word of caution. I have been wrestling with my AG hood for weeks now. For some reason whenever I would close the door it would lean to the passenger side and not actually close. I modified holes, I bent things, I put in odd washers, I loosened everthing, but it would not lay flat. I unhooked the left hinge and it would drop in. I unhooked the right hinge and it would drop in.
Two weeks ago I was fed up and purchased a new flapper door on ebay. I hooked it up yesterday and fell in perfect. I was pissed. I have been fighting this thing litterally for weeks, not knowing that the door was the problem.
Buyer beware.....It only cost me an extra 189 dollars.... I guess I should be happy that I am about to have a functional hood.

Barrybum ,
Here is the minimum I think you would need to start with, and you could add more as needed.
I have the fiberglass bulge and door set on my satellite hood that is cut to the right size.
I have the hinge that goes under the door. I have the air box and flapper door.
I also have the pins that hook the flapper door arms to the door opening.
I think this is all you need to have the air grabber look that is somewhat functional. You also have the ability to add on and make it totally functional.
I have mine set up like this and it works like a charm. I plan on finishing the functional version once I get the electronic stuff.

THE BEST LOOKING HOOD ON 71-72 B-BODY
Geez and I agree with you on so many things cause you are usually right so why did you have to make that obviously false statement above.
