High-jackers

Post by patrick » Fri May 02, 2008 9:49 am

Okay, my sole purpose in life is to:

a) lift the rear of my 'runner because I grew up in the '70s and '80s and that was the stance to have
b) do it safely

I don't drag race (well, I'm sure if an STI pulled up to the light and there was no law, you know, the typical antics). This is for a street car.

Anyway, I don't want air shocks because they're not designed for Mopars. I think the lopsided look of the Mopar S/S springs is cool because it looks "the business" and heard they will lift the rear, but also heard their quality is not as good lately due to being made in Mexico. But if I did go this route, which ones would I order for a stock '73 Road Runner with a mild 440 and 4-speed since when I go to ManciniRacing's web site, they want the weight of the car and if it's an auto or 4-speed. I don't get why that matters? I don't know the weight of my car, but it has a full interior and everything. Are the Caltrac bars and monosprings good for lifting? I know they're better for drag cars, and allegedly superior to the springs, but I just want to lift it a little in the rear and drive on the street. Thanks for all input!

Call ESPO. Order a set of their heavy duty springs and ask for +2 on the arch.

That's going to be your safest and most economical way to raise the rear.

The CalTracs springs don't hold up well on street cars. The bars do nothing for ride height. Save'em for the race cars or hardcore street/strip car.

Superstock springs will ride rough on the street, and you'll have the added expense of replacing the front hangers.

my torsion bars were lowered in the front and have air shocks on the back pumped up...really gave it the "look" - if i had taller tires it would have looked better - now the car sits level front to back cuz of the sidepipes...air shocks ride real nice...feels like a cadillac :D

Or do like they did in the 70s and go to Auto Zone and buy a $15.00 lift kit.

I bought a NOS shackle kit on eBay and then found the matching shock extensions. I also bought a set of HiJackers just to have them. If you don't crank the air pressure, they are like normal shocks. I like the air valve in my bumper.

the espo springs are on the list, I just want the look of shackles and 15x10's.... now if theywould just repop the N50 Big Boss 50's, I'd be set...
