hi, i am new here, just bought a 71 satellite sebring plus, ran good....until i tried recharging my a/c, i think my heater core went, coolant started dripping out my a/c discharge rubber tube on the firewall, never seen that before????any one else have this problem, also my vents are getting all steamed up,, should have left well enuf alone!!!!!!!!!!

sounds like the problem, did not know charging your a/c could make it go out though. Get one from auto zone or other parts store, price is not not too much, better than getting butt raped from year one or paddock IMO on something you don't see.

another option is to take your unit to a radiator shop. There they can pressure test it, and a lot of times repair your leak. If it needs replaced it is best to go with a new one. SHOP around!!! The difference in pricing could be drastic.

Or you could just bypass it for now. Is it still cold where you are? If you're going to do the heater core, better do the evaporator core while you're at it.

Your heater has nothing to do with the a/c system.The controls for the heat and a/c operate damper doors for cold air going into the car or heat.
But they are 2 separate closed systems.The heater core has antifreeze in it to give you heat.and the evaporator coil has refrigerant to give you cold air. also their are valves and commpressor clutches that turn on and off.

Just 30 years of heating and a/c experience.

thanks for all of yall's input, i know that they are two different systems, but i think when i was running the engine, and allowing it to clutch in and clutch out on my a/c, most likely the heater core was going out, and the running of the engine for about 15 minutes and it was very hot, probably done it in, and i was kinda flipping my heater and a/c controls back and forth "trying to loosen the flapper doors and what not up"thanks, i'll just have to change out the old heater core, i am not looking forward to this!!

I just had to do a heater core on mine- just heat though no AC. The NAPA units did not fit right and ran about $80. I think I got it out of Carquest for $45 . The Napa unit looked good until you installed it in the heater box. The core was the right size, but the tubes were at the wrong angle. This caused the core to be off about 1/4" . ANYWAY-- Just have it apart and ready to test fit in case you need to take it back .

Heater core is pretty easy to do. I did mine and it took about 2 hours for a first timer. Just take your time and read this FSM sheet and fellow it to a "t" it really makes it easy.
