71 taillamp screws

Post by landon1 » Tue Apr 01, 2008 9:34 pm

what are they? seems i can rarely find a screw that fits. i managed to find 3 the other day, but they weren't from my taillights and have no idea where they came from.
thanks

also, i may be able to acquire another chrome bezel, and if i do, do they go on top of the taillamp and then all screw on together, or what?

I think Eric was having some taillight screws made by someone he knows, and no, they aren't real common to come across.

The chrome bezels are on my car. Your taillights are installed as usual, with screws in both ends, and above and below the clear part of the taillight. Then you place the bezel over the taillight, and there are four long screws that go into the four holes the bezel fits into.

I really like having them, if you don't have a set, its even more important your taillights look nice. You can hide things with the bezels. I just painted mine last year. A photo after I painted the first one. Taping off the chrome took more time then anything.

that's the big problem i'm having...i have one, original to my car, but not the second one, so i'm trying to get ahold of one (and yup, the edges of my taillights are cracked :( )

I've been working with Tom over at R/T Specialties for a couple of years now trying to find the correct taillight lense screws....no luck so far. He had originally said that if he couldn't find them then he'd have them made. I've not had success with this either....

are the threads one-off, like holley carb threads (can't get bolts anywhere but from holley, and they have to come in a set  )

i've found some random screws that actually work, but i'm not sure what they came from, so maybe i can do some pokin around to see if i can find some for sale somewhere

could someone post a pic of the screws. I took off 3 sets of 71 lenses off of parts cars and have the screws in a box mixed with others. I will dig them out and give them to who needs them, but I don't know what they look like. Has been a year or so since I got the lenses, which are long gone now.

None of them had the chrome bezels, they were all off of plain satellite's, sold them at MMW in st. louis last year.
