Mystery of the Howling Bearing(s?)

Post by billzilla » Wed Mar 26, 2008 5:10 pm

I think my rear left bearing(s) are howling! When I corner right its particularly loud. Which ones might be at fault and who stocks these ?

Yes, but which ones? Aren't there two on each side?

one on each side in the rear, you have to pull the axle out to change them, need to be pressed on.

Okay, great - I knew I'd need to use a press, wasn't sure if there were two on each end or what. Thanks!!!

OK, I give up. I've been on Rock Auto and I cannot for the life of me figure out which bearings to get for this car. They have different sizes, it seems, from every manufacturer and their descriptions are vague so I have no idea what I'm getting. My shop manual is at my brother's place while he bones up on the front suspension job we're going to do.

Can someone give me actual part numbers for inner, outer bearings for the rear as well as the oil seals and dust cap? I mean, I think I have the seals and cap figured out - but the bearings are just totally confusing the way RA has them listed.

Thanks!!! :help:

OK first thing...what size rear end you working on? there is only one bearing pressed on the axle. The inner bearings are part of the ring gear carrier i dont recommend you mess with these unless you know what you are doing.Dust caps? are you talking about the front wheel bearings or the rear axle bearings?
