power antenna

Post by aerodynamic » Mon Mar 24, 2008 9:27 am

Was a power antenna ever available on the 73 models? I'd like to put one in mine. Anyone make one that fits?

Yeah, we had a power antenna back in 73. My girlfriend at that time thought it was cool and she called it the insta-erect. ..

It was on a 1973 Roadrunner, am/fm power antenna with leather white interior.

I can give you two names and phone numbers right now --both old girlfriends from the seventies--that'll verify that my 73 came with that type of antenna. . .

I got into this debate early on in another forum about the validity of a power antenna AND leather seats. I know what I was driving in 1975.

Go here and find a power antenna code R48. I'm guessing that while it wasn't an advertised option, it was a special order option. It only makes sense considering that Plymouth offered power windows and power locks as well

http://www.mopar1.us/build.html#Selector

You'll also find the build code for Dual Horns (although they spelled 'em Duel Horns. ..which is cool thinking of two horns duking it out under the hood).

If anyone with a 1972-1974 B-Body has a broadcast sheet coded for a power antenna please let me know?

Broadcast Sheet

Post by Lrdrunner » Wed Mar 26, 2008 11:58 am

I have the broadcast for my 74. For the "POWER ITEMS" listing, there is nothing for antenna. Listed are, seats windows T/gate door locks
security system deck/gate release.
I have wiring diagrams for all 73 Chrysler car lines but none of them include the radio.
I have an aftermarket power antenna on my 74 but don't know what the manufacturer is. I have installed a switch to prevent it from extending if I choose so I can start and run the car with the car cover on.
Most aftermarkets are universal and not complicated to install.

I have never seen one either, not saying they did not make it. Maybe Serious Satellite's car was one that was put together by a line worker who bought the car. I know a couple of guys who worked at the st. louis plant and they did some pretty cool stuff to the cars they bought and built, from what they told me they had access to lots of parts and could put basically what they wanted on it. Just a thought.

Thanks for the info guys. That antenna is one thing that bothers me about the car. I'd sure like to be able to retract it when I need to. Guess I'll have to make one work.

All I can tell you is that I had one and it came on when I turned the radio on. It certainly looked stock and given that the car was only two years old when I bought it so I figure it was a dealer installed option. They did have those ya know.

I couldnt find the wiring schematics that include it either, although I did find the dual horns in the schematics.

Its funny. . .the car had white leather interior and there was great debate about that issue as well on another forum. But, I definitely know it was leather and Ive got some documentation in the Plymouth Satellite manual on cleaning/reconditioning leather.

 Darn baby brother of mine totaled it out. . . I wish I still had that car. ..

Hey Serious, I worked and lived around Dayton in the 70's. I bought a 73 RR off the show room floor at Salem Chrysler Plymouth. It was red with a black yinyl top. I wrecked it at 1800 miles when some one pulled out in front of me at the Salem mall, I hear I would'nt want to visit the Mall thesedays.
I wish I had kept my 73, got a 74 now that I have done things to for the past few years.
As far as the antenna, I put the power on mine so I can have it down when I want. Works great.

Yeah, the Salem Mall is kaput. When we moved here twelve years ago, it was a nice little mall. It deteriorated rapidly when they put a Dayton Public Transit Hub next door. The last time we were there--the food court and Chick-Fil-A-- there was a huge gang war right in the front lobby. Must have been twenty five to thirty young kids duking--and shooting-- it out. We never went back. Soon after that it closed down. Now they've torn it down. Most of the businesses along that mall route on 49 and Salem are gone now.

Salem Chrysler Plymouth is still there, as is Arena Dodge, but they're staying on out of habit instead of business acumen.

The Northmont community has become THE place. A lot of shops going in off of I 70 and there will soon be a new Clayton Arena. They'll eventually move the Hamfest there since there have been a lot of complaints about Hara Arena and the crime there.

I live in Englewood, just off of 49 North. Nice little community. I haven't seen many Mopars, although the neighbor who's restoring a 70 Black on Black Challenger stopped in yesterday when I was surface sanding the interior of my Satellite.
