Road Runner Nest

While driving the Satellite back from having the rear drums repaired and the u-joints replaced the other day, I was siting at a stop light and my girlfriend pulled up kitty corner (we'd talked on the cell recently so I kind of expected to see her). She waved. I planned to take off with the engine revving to, you know, impress her. LOL

So... My friends relubed the diff while the rear of the car was getting worked on, plus it had been low on fluid (it has a bit of a leak) and I'm not sure what the guy had been using. Either way, I floored it from the light, expecting the usual chirp and nice loud motor roar.

I think I've posted before that my car barely squeaks a tire off the line, right? So I don't know if it had been because of not being fully warmed up or that the diff fluid status had been hindering things, but I proceeded to light up a stripe for the next 20 or so feet!

My girlfriend texted me: "DORK!!!"

Glad no enforcement was nearby. That can land you a naaaasty ticket or a few hours in jail with the car impounded. That would've sucked. But... It was kinda cool. Anyway, I wonder if this was due to lube and new u-joints?

In high school circa 1975, we had a senior burn off day during the last days of school where all the muscle cars would line up in the parking lot and light up the wheels for the longest burn off. It was all supervised by the shop teachers and just about every male teacher in the school

Yeah, my friend burned off the rear tire(s?) of his '70 Mustang on the last day of school - but it was unsanctioned.

Back then, you could do that stuff. Today, the school would have the feds, the cops, HAZMAT, the EPA and Hillary Clinton herself shackling you and throwing away the key.

reminds me of my senior year, which was actually only 3 years ago haha...i always parked the satty about 4 blocks from school, where all the gear heads parked and one day after school i had about 30 people just standing around as i roasted 'em for about 15 seconds at a stand still then was off like a bullett

On my 21st birthday I had just gotten out of work, driving my 440 Runner. I came to a 4-way stop and there was a bunch of kids standing at one of the corners. I hung a right and proceeded to shred some pavement. As I looked back through my rear view mirror to admire my handywork, RIGHT THROUGH THE SMOKE came, well, a smokie, lights flashing away. I pulled into a gas station and he pulled right behind me at the pumps. He walked up to the window and said "any particular reason you did that?" I said "Yes sir, there was a bunch of kids standing at the corner back there and I was showing off". He laughed even though he tried not to, having expected some lame excuse I'm sure. He took my license back to his car and I could hear him chuckling all the way back. After he checked my otherwise squeaky-clean record, he came back all business and said "Happy birthday Greg, and if I see you do that again I'll impound this car, understand? It's not safe, especially with people around."

Well, he never saw me do it again.

Thank god that cop was not around that was follow us around the other day! He would have towed you car, gave you a full cavity search, thrown you in jail for attempted vehicular manslaughter, etc. etc. LoL

Yeah, I think you're right. Fortunately, somewhere between that backroads bar in Woodland and my place, he gave up. LOL

Still, I'm kinda proud of the little 318.
