Why are some Satellites orange and some clear? My 71's are clear and I think original, delorean's '72 has orange.

Clear was used on early production cars, usually just Road Runners and GTXs from what I understand. Maybe SSPs got them too... later production (definitely '72s) got orange. Regular Satellites always got orange. Eric and Dave can probably put a date on this.

That's interesting - so then mine are likely not original and taken off a RR or GTX?

They used the clear ones up until Feb. of '71. Mopar changed these around Feb. of '71. If your car was built BEFORE Feb. of '71, then they should be clear. Otherwise they are amber.
Do you know what the build date is for your car? Mine was built on Oct of '70 so it has the clear ones.

I've always THOUGHT they were clear only on RRs and GTXs... waiting for Dave or Eric to chime in and verify.

The Feb 71 build date sounds about right. I've never been able to find any documentation as to specifics, and of course it would vary by plant too. The model breakdown was:
Satellite Coupes: amber
Road Runner: clear
Satellite Sebring: amber
Satellite Sebring Plus: clear
GTX: clear
It is correct that all 72s had the amber lenses.

Thanks for asking this!! Also the shots of our cars looks cool!

I like both the clear and the orange, but on my car I like the contrast of the orange on the green.
So to verify, should a 1972 Road Runner have clear lenses??

ok, I'll chime in....I agree with Dave

It seems there were a lot of part changes around Feb/March 71.

sounds right...my RR have amber lenses, and is a 06/71...
but i want to change to clear lenses!
i find the clear one better for my RR because i have clear headlights too...next i install LED-conversion-bulbs in the turn signals...
so i find clear looks on mine better!

Now the one really interesting part that I have, and the only one like it I've ever found, is a turn signal housing that originally came with clear lens and still had the amber bulb in it, but instead of the normal silver reflector, had an amber tint to the reflector. I picked it up at a swap meet because it had a nice lens with it, and didn't think anything about it until I got home and pulled the lens off it to clean it up. Anybody else ever find one of these?
Eric, I think I've shown that part to you, haven't I?
