Is there any reason why sunroof Roadrunners came with vinyl?

Ok since mine is a power sunroof I was wondering if the canopy or full vinyl were hiding anything since Mopar had a thing with hiding things under vinyl. Because I would really like to have no canopy on mine and was wondering if it is hiding anything?

Ma Mopar didn't do the conversions on 1971 and 1972 sunroof cars.
So the vinyl tops were added to cover up any flaws so they would not have to do any body work (paint and patch).

Yep, it was just done to be able to cover sloppy and quick bodywork on the conversions, not unlike the vinyl tops put on Superbirds. Nothing saying you can't do a sunroof car without a vinyl top, check out Dave's Blue Bird project in his Project Journal. That's not a car that CAME with a sunroof, but thanks to an EXCELLENT body man now has one AND no vinyl top!
Also check out new member Eroctika's white sunroof Runner--an orignal sunroof car that's been redone WITHOUT the vinyl top.

Well I saw Eroctikas and that's what got me to ask the question about the vinly tops. And so what it's only hiding is some welds.

Well the dumb dumb used sicone every wheres on my car,to glue the windows in.(thats why my windsheild broke
),they used it for parts of the vynal,and they used it as mud in some spots,everywhers where it was rusted they squirted silcione...
funny if you think about it,but it just makes for hours of desiliconing.

last year i got rid of a 74 roadrunner that had a factory sun roof and never had a vinyl top. i kept the sunroof part of it if anyone needs one or parts let me know,jeff

Speaking as the Nest's officially designated "dirty old man", Eric is correct, I wasn't talking about cars.
But honestly, I prefer them REAL, not "augmented".

Speaking of fillers and vinyl tops, the previous owner of my car let the top get torn up from the sun, and water got down into the C-Pillars. It wasn't real noticeable until I tore the rest of the top off and found several quarter sized holes on both sides. The guy had attempted to fill the holes with that foaming plumber's stuff. Most of it was sitting on top of the rear wheel wells. It was a little comical because he must have used several cans and couldn't figure out where it all was going. Never bothered to check the trunk I guess. Would have been nice if he would have mentioned it, but even so it was the only rust on the whole car and I didn't pay much for it.
