Just ordered hood pins for the 72 RR clone project. I was wondering if anyone had a good pic of where the actual rod mounts on the inside fender/rad. support? After that, how do you determine where to drill the holes for the hood as well?

Well when i got my satellite i had looked in to it,and it didnt seem that someone drilled holes,i think the holes were already there.

Yes, the holes to mount the pins are already there. Under the hood, the first layer of metal has a hole in for the pins to pass thru once you make the commitment to put the hole through the top.

I kind of thought that might be where they went. What is the best way to determine where to drill in the hood? I guess,maybe, install the rod with maybe some chaulk on the end. the slowly close hood until it touches......and that will be the spot?

or you can make a template of the holes from a buddies pinned hood,(thats if you have a buddy with a pinned hood,lol_

that way you can just place,trace a drill

but!You have to drill 10 holes in all,i believe theres 4 screw holes besides the bigger pin holes.




I would also like to say it make sure you get the panels lined up perfectly before you drill the hood.

i'm sure your chalk idea would work..or paint...or if you could know what 90 degrees vertical would be, that would be the easiest to just drill...but then again, your hole is gonna be a lil bigger than the pin itself, and you have the scuff plates to cover up excess, so i'm sure if you drilled your hole big enough to compensate for the difference in angle, the pin would go right through, then shut the hood and set the scuff plates down, trace, mark your screw holes, and then mount them...should be a pretty easy install that way...
