Dash Mounted Reverse Indicator Light

Post by 72RoadRunnerGTX » Fri Jan 25, 2008 1:16 am

As a part of my conversion from an automatic transmission to a 5-speed Tremec I plan to install a dash mounted reverse light indicator. I would appreciate any information and/or dimensions for the original location of this housing on a factory 4-speed car. From photos I’ve seen I believe the general location is between the ash tray and glove box, closer to the glove box opening. Thanks.

I'm not trying to hijack this one but I have seen some 72's with both the reverse light and the seat belt light. I'm guessing this was a mid year thing. I need to know the locations for both of these. Thanks.

The seat belt light w/ the reverse light was March 1972 and on.

Thanks. So heres a couple more questions. Did the dash mounted seat belt light come in both autos and 4 speeds? I have only seen them in 4 speeds. My 72 auto was built in june of 72 and does not have one. does anyone have the measurements for the location of the holes? Thanks

I thought all car and trans options got them after March 72.
Your June 72 build car should have them.

The only seat belt light configuration I’ve seen on these cars was molded into the plastic panel above the cluster, screwed into the pad, that also contains the map light. My May 72 production car has this but my early production 72 Sats do not. I had the impression that fourforty6pac may have been talking about a seat belt light housing similar in design to the reverse light (chrome plated pot metal, mounts through a hole in the dash with a nut) I have seen them offered as reproductions but I don’t believe they were used on these cars. A-bodys maybe.

I've seen a couple of b bodies with both the reverse and the seat belt light next to each other.
