What type of oil and spark plugs do you guyes use on your roadrunners?

Oil-castrol 20-50
plugs-Accel u-groove non resister

Anybody try newer spark plugs like the iridiums? How bout the synthetic engine oils like royal purple? 20-50 seems kind of heavy.

I run a good quality 10W30 in all of my cars. I haven't bothered with synthetics at this point.
I figure if these cars could get over 100000 miles on the oils of the 70's, that they should be fine for the 1000 or so miles a year I put on em now without the use of an expensive synthetic. I'm pretty sure that most of us will treat these cars with more respect than any of them got in the 70's too.

I've used Bosch Platinums, Champions, and NGK V-Grooves in most of my cars. I don't know that there was any noticeable difference with any of them.

For oil, I've used cheap stuff, synthetics, and now am trying out 15-40 Valvoline...basically, i haven't noticed a difference in any of them

Sparkplugs.....It had Autolite in there when i got it, so i used them a couple times, then champion a few times, and now i think NGK, but I'm not sure........I wanted to get one of the new style plugs with +3 or +4 (something like that), but couldn't get em in the right size

here is something I was told???

since most new engines are roller motors....they have removed something
like zinc and another metal substance from the oil because that these
products caused increased emissions and WAS ONLY NESSESARY TO KEEP
THE FRICTION DOWN ON OLDER ENGINES...like ours

The fella went on to say thet Rotella Diesel Oil still has these substances
in them?? he builds quite a few "brand X" engines...lost a couple of cams
on break-in....added Rotella and a new cam and it was fine...??

does anyone know of any truth to this????

Yep its true

I am a firm believer that sometimes newer technologies are out there.If the oils of the seventies could get you 100k maybe the newer synthetics will get me 200k.More years to enjoy my ride is a plus for me. we also lost the lead that we needed to lubricate our valves.So we had to adapt.

Plugs I use are NGK - V groove and Quaker State 10-30. Runs fine in my books.
