Anyone with a canopy top.

Is the molding at the back of the canopy top and the painted section held down with clips in the center and a screw at each side in the drip rail on a 72 Road Runner? A picture would be great.

If I remember corrcetly the ends have a stud on them that is held on with a nut and washer, the rest is held on with nylon clips. Sorry no pics.

I remember a long time ago taking moulding off of a car in the junk yard and they had small like studs welded to the body and the nylon clip was slid on that. They sell something like it on ebay but you screw it on the body and you attach the nylon to that.

What I have are the studs with the plastic clips across the top and each side a hole 2" above the drip rail.I assumed that was for a clip that had a threaded end that a nut attached to on the inside of the roof.I had moldings that came with the car but not installed.After having a new top put on I have tried every way possible to get the moldings on and they almost fit but not quite.

The person that installed the top said the moldings were wrong.They come so close to fitting that I thought she was wrong.

I found a different set of moldings from a 73 but thet screw down at the drip rail.My headliner is dropped to install the molding and I can't see or feel a hole where a screw would go.

I was hoping someone that had a 72 with a canopy roof could tell me what is correct.

My '71 has clips across the top, and a hole on each side. There is a stud coming off of the molding that the nut threads onto from the inside of the car(under the headliner)

I have a 72 with canopy, and it has the studs across the roof with a hole on each side for a butterfly type clip (this clip is the stud that was referred to previously above). You may need to buy a couple of new clips, so be sure you get the style that has the rubber seal on the stud or the roof will leak.
The picture above looks correct. The last hole showing above the drip rail should be where the clips stud goes through. As I recall the moulding does take a small amount of pushing to bring the ends down (kinda springs up a bit when you unbolt the ends. I assume that is why they use a bolt on style clip to hold it, or maybe mine were bent a bit

All of my stainless is out being polished but I hope to pick it up this weekend. I'll try and get some pics as soon as I have it back, as well as pics of the clips.

On a related note, does anyone have a source for replacement nylon clips? Mine are shot.
Another question.... When I stripped my car it still had the original strobe on it. My strobe was mounted exactly 2inches from the back roof edge. Was this a factory mistake? Cuz I hear everyone say all the time that it should be closer to the front pillar edge (1.5" I think I heard).

I assumed mine was placed farther back because of the canopy option.

Took some pics on the weekend....

Not shown in the picture is the rubber seal and nut for the 2 metal clips. The rubber seal goes between the roof and the clip, and the nut goes on from inside the roof. If you're having trouble finding the hole on the inside of the car, I would suggest inserting a screw driver into the hole so that you can see where it come through.

Thanks for the pictures,they will help.One thing I see that is different is mine sets farther down into the driprail.I ground a little bit of the corner of the molding off and that seemed to help it fit flatter to the top.We are going to make another attempt at installing the moldings tomorrow.

Mine will sit farther down in the rail too!
Like I was saying earlier, it sprung up a bit when I unbolted it but when I tighten up the nut on the clip it will come down. It basically squeezes the vinyl snug into the drip rail area.

I got mine from R/T Specialties.They look like the originals but they are a bitch to get the molding over them.

try your local nut and bolt store...if you have a good one...

Most keep a large selection of trim clips from "Aveco" and such for local
body shops. The Aveco book s huge and has everything listed.....

I stroll through the isles of mine and find something that is a close match!!!
slip them in a bag....hold it up...and here "that will be three dollars sir"...
pay the suckers and leave.

The clips for my top trim was from an AMC "74" and they have several!!
sizes of butterfly clips...and it really did cost me $3.00 bucks.
