Has anyone rebuilt the hinges on thier 71 or 72? I see the pins and bushings for the other type of hinges but I havent seen any for the 71 and 2's. Will those pins and bushing kits work with both types of hinges? Is there someplace that sells the kit I need?

EBAY often has rebuilt hinges up for grabs. Might be quicker and easier that way.

I looked at these before. They are the wrong style. I've seen the right type hinges for sale from time to time and they cost a little more. Dont get me wrong I dont mind spending my money on parts, but I get a little pissed when something cost more then it is worth. The bushing and pin kits are way under $20, and I can blast the hinges for the cost of electricity and a small amount of media. I would rather do it myself and spend the left over $200 plus on something that I cant rebuild. If I can find the correct pins and hinges I could rebuild and sell them for less then those guys on ebay Its fine to make a buck but there is something wrong when you just plain screw someone.
Being a 71 and 72 b body mopar guy all my life has not been an easy row to hoe. There was a time when nobody made repro parts for these cars. I'm used to spending top dollar for nos, unless I can repair or rebuild it myself.
Sorry, I didnt want this to turn into a rant but sometimes I just cant help myself. Thanks for the input.

I'm right there with you, being a 73 owner, but at least you guys have a biright spot on the quarter panel horizon sometime soon. We're pretty much screwed! lol

I've been hearing this line for quite awhile now, Lucky for me my quarters are solid. I hope they appear soon cuz I know a guy that has a 71 GTX I am going to try to pry from his GM loving paws. It needs both quarters and one frame rail but is still worth restoring.

Where do you get the bushing and pin kits from?

I went to the local parts house and picked up mine....think they were $14
for the set....I think I had them cleaned, painted, drilled and back on in a
couple of hours or so....

I'll do them all day for $200 a pop... $$$ $$$

lower door hinges for 71 b-body are not the same as 72 the 72 are different


$200 for a set of refurbished door hinges. Come on, that's a little much .$20 tops for used ones. The 4-doors have the same ones. They're not that rare.

What is different about 72's over 71's

my bad. I put the hinge from the back door of a 4-door on my car. It's different, it also explains why my door doesn't fit properly. Duh. The 71 and 72 hinges are the same, well the front hinges are anyway.

As punishment I guess I'll have to go work the lot at the local GM dealership.

are the 71 B body hinges the same as the E body hinges??

E-Body hinges are different than the 72's, not sure about the 71 B's though. I know this, cuz I was trying to find replacement springs for my lowers, and the E-Body's don't even use the same style of spring.

I got a complete rebuilt set for my '72 from Year One for $171.00. Kind of pricey but I kind of painted myself in a corner.

The '72s have a totally different spring. It is a short coil spring that pushes a lever with a roller on the end against the pillar half, which has a step for half open and one for full. They DO NOT use the "S" shaped spring, which is probably what made them impossible to find in the local junk yards. Until just recently even Year One did not have '72 springs. (I don't know about other years or E bodies)

The biggest frustration was it took four tries to get the right ones. Seems the Year One vendor that rebuilds the springs mixed the "S" spring types with the coil spring types, but labeled them all the same!

If I had it all to do over again, as soon as I took the doors off I would have torn the hinges apart and rebuilt them. As it was I got them back together and then discovered they were worn more than I originally thought.

71s are the same

They give you new hinges with a core not bad at year one.
