I am thinking about switching from an auto on the floor to a 4 speed, Are the columns the same or is there a difference between the floor shifted auto and 4 speed columns?

You didn't say what car. My 1972 came with a floor shift/console automatic. (slap stik shifter) If I want to put a four speed on the floor the hump on the floor pan is a different piece (different part #) to give the extra room for the shift mechanism. You can’t just drop a four speed floor shift in and use the same holes in the floor or the console. I’m sure you could fabricate something, but I never have done it so can’t speak from experience.

Maybe some of the old heads here who have made the swap can give more info.

As for the steering columns my first guess is they are the same. They both have the steering wheel lock ring to do what putting a column shift in park does. Again, not really sure on this.

I just needed to know if the columns were the same. I know about all the other stuff like the hump. I just want to know just I need to complete the job. All I have for the conversion is the hump and 4 speed console plate. I will slowly get all the parts together. The only problem I can see is the price. I wish they made alot more 4 sp. cars, so the parts were more plentiful. Thanks for the replies to my questions.
