Hi...I saw a 71 Roadrunner last summer with a under dash 8-track player. The guy said it was original, but I don't believe it had any Mopar markings. Maybe this was dealer add on? Were 8-track units avaliable through your dealer? If so, where are these mounted?

You are correct sir, there was no 8track option available in 71. You could get the cassette player/recorder, but no 8 tracks. The casette players didn't mount under the dash, but actually to the floor on the transmission hump or on the console if so equipped.
Sounds to me like an aftermarket add on, possibly by a dealership - they were known for doing whatever it took to make the sale.
