1/4 patch panels

Post by 1carcrazyguy » Sat Aug 26, 2006 5:41 pm

Does any company make patch panels for the lower 1/4 's for 71 Sat/RR/GTX's?

Yeah, Sherman and Associates and Auto Body Specialties both carry patch panels for '71s. Unfortunately, they're pretty rough and will need some "finishing and tweaking" to fit well.

BTW, if your Satty needs trunk extensions you'll be out of luck like the rest of us. No one is making those. Welcome to the world of orphan '71 and up b-bodies. We're the red-headed step children of the Mopar world. No offense Dave, my red-headed friend! :D

Try these:

I called Auto Body Specialties today and got the standard answer that they would be ready in a couple of months. That was the same answer I got a year and a half ago. Don't waste your time with them.

They've been advertising them as long as I can remember. I can't wait any longer since the GTX is going into the resto shop in september. The time has come that I'm going to have to purchase a whole car to cut it up. I hate to cut up a perfectly good car, but what am I to do. My car is a six pack and needs to be saved. I have a line on a 72 Roadrunner that is solid (please don't kill me). It's more that I want to pay, but rusty cars are bringing almost 4K these days. I will spare this car if someone has a passenger side quarter they would part with. If I have to cut it up, I will have a full driver's side 1/4 for someone in need. Wish me luck.

I had a bodyman look at my car. He claims that "any good fabricator" could easily make patches for my car and use most of the original panel. He claimed there was not reason to even order "patch panels"???

i've heard of several people doing that where i'm from...especially on the cars without good repros, but even on chevelles and camaros...they look just as good, but it probably takes quite a bit of skill to make some repairs like that, but if you're able to, why spend the mega bucks to get a panel, if you could find one and still have to do the metal work?

That is a good point. On Project Blue Bird, we obviously had to replace the passenger quarter with all the accident damage, but even the piece we replaced it with needed some patch work both in front of and behnd the wheelhouse. The guy who did my body work is very talented, and didn't have a bit of a problem at all making our own patch panels for the car. On the driver's side, we used a sizeable patch panel cut from another quarter to replace the accident damage on that side, but only because I already had the quarter and it was simply easier. We could have repaired it without using the donor panel.
