front park lights

Post by landon1 » Tue Jul 11, 2006 7:26 pm

was there a reason some cars have clear and others have amber front lenses, or was that another deal where they just put on whatever was available when the car came down the line? just wondering...

April assembly change

Post by CtownRunner » Wed Jul 12, 2006 6:25 am

I think it was clear on the 71 production until April of 71 then went to amber for late bulid 71 and all 72. Anyone know for sure, correct me if I'm wrong.

That's exactly right--late build '71s had the amber lenses and so did '72s.

I was talking Road Runners. Satellites got the amber lenses from the start.

My roadrunner was built early in the year and had clear lenses and amber light bulbs.
I also had a 71 satellite and that had amber lenses with clear bulbs but I dont recall the date of the satellite was built. 8)

oh...okay, they're different...gotcha. So the GTXs were probably like the roadrunners in having the clear ones then switching to amber, since I've seen some with clear?

Ok, the around Mid-April build date = all amber lenses is correct, of course that can vary by plant as to the specific dates of the changeover. As far as which models got which lenses:

Satellite Coupe (RL) - Amber
Road Runner (RM) - Clear
Satellite Sebring (RH) - Amber
Satellite Sebring Plus (RP) - Clear
GTX (RS) - Clear

Hope that clears (or ambers, depending on your model and build date) things up! :D

And just to confuse things further the 1971 parts book lists one part number for all 2drht R cars up to app. Feb 71 and one part number for after feb 71.It does not list seperate numbers for the sat.roadrunner or gtx.

Mine is a Sept. '70 built RR built at the St. Louis, Missouri plant, which is where the original owner lived and bought it from, and it has the clear lenses. I bought it off the second owner which moved here from Missouri and he only had it a few months.
