Well it's vacuum operated, Basically you need to apply vacuum to the nipple on top. That should open the valve and start the water flowing to the core. If yours is in the car yet, just hook up a vacuum source and see if your heat is working.
The proper way for this to work is ,
There is a vaccum line from the heater control onthe dash- that activate this swich in "heat" mode and keeps it off during "vent and or AC".

You are right, but I think it should be hooked to the heater switch on the dash so when you put it in heat mode vacumn opens the valve and in the cool mode the vacumn should shut off to cut of the flow of water. You dont want water flowing thru there when the AC is running.

idk...my ac isn't connected...i think somebody was wanting to get rid of any unneccesary weight. I'm not sure which vacuum hose to use...there is the whole connector, then a single one, but not sure where it leads to...i found a disconnected vacuum hose behind the motor over the tranny that i tried hooking up, but didn't do anything, so i guess i'll have to do some inversitgating later...thanks

Yeah with an AC car- ALL the functions are vacuum driven. From changing which duct is dischargind air, to the water flow control valve. The factory manual should have the breakdown for the vacuum hose and what they control/ function. That would be the place to start.
