heater valve

okay, so this heater valve has been bothering me...i don't believe it is original. It is vacuum operated, but i can't find the vacuum hose that goes to it, but i don't know if that would really do anything...didnt' these cars have a cable-operated heating system for the temp control, and if so, it should be in the engine compatment like my pickup, right? Anyway, if it does solely work off of vacuum, i could run a vacuum hose from my carb or somewhere to the heater valve and that would worK? If that is right, that should allow me to shut down the flow of water to the heater core and will not make the interior of my car go over 100 degrees, right? If that is correct, does anyone know if u can get vacuum hose from a parts store?
Just wondering, cuz i think i'm going to finish all my little projects i have left to do this coming weekend maybe.
THANKS!!!

It should be cable operated. I'm not sure if the strato vent option is cable operated but I think they are too. Maybe someone cobbled that one in there some how. Check to see what happens when you move the temp. control lever. Take a look under the dash and see if there is a cable conected to the lever. Maybe it's for a later model. Do you have a cable in the engine compartment thats not hooked up? Good luck.

nope...i knew there wasn't a cable there and i kinda figured tehre should be based on the temp control lever, unless there was some other eway it worked...right now, i just go under the hood and either have the heater on full with a bypass tube or hook it up to the heater valve, which doesn't allow the water to flow into the heater. One of these days i'll have to get a cable and a factory heater valve.

Did the back of the controls look like it is was for a cable? If all thats missing is the cable they can be had on ebay about 20 for a nos piece. The valve is another story I have seen them for as little as 80 up to 125 for a nos valve. I came across a vacume valve for a 71 and some 72's b bodies for 69 for nos. I thought that was a mistake maybe some were vacume controlled.
