So i'm converting to a 4sp. What are the years I can use a tranny from. I have a chance to pick up a 68 trans. Can this be used with the later pistol grip shifter or are the mounting bosses diferent? I'm still trying to find out what linkage rods I will have to use with a console. Thanks in advance for all the help.

Try this site, I bought mine from here. I had the wrong trans installed in my car but Jamie got me the right one. 8)

I know where to get trannys from, thats not the question. I am lookng at a 68 hemi 4 speed out of a charger. What I dont know and what I asked in my post is: Does this trans have the same mounting bosses for the shifter as the later model (71 4 speed up b body, 70 to 74 e body) 4 speed? Why have 23 splines when you only need 18?

your will need the 71 B and E style shifter mount.....it will be on the rear of the tailshaft....other than that the trannys are pretty much the same.....the shifter mech is different...for bench or consoule...

the good news most pick-ups have the universal tailshafts....on the overdrive transmissions...they are all over junkyards....and you may consider the overdrive...
it is called an 899....i think.. or just change the tailshaft......scott

the overdrive requires a different bel-housing...other than that it is the same

Some '71 B-bodys had front-mount shifters. I had a '71 GTX with a front-mount shifter, so it didn't have the short, e-body style pistol-grip handle, it had a longer curved one. I think bench seat 4-speed cars also often (if not always) got the front mount shifter.
