8-track...

Post by 1971SSP » Tue Jun 06, 2006 4:02 am

Has any one seen a 8 track in a 71 b-body? (72-74 even). I'm sure it wasn't a factory thing, but wondered if a dealer could add this on, and if any one might know what brand they used.

well,

the '71 Satellite brochure shows a Stereo Casette Tape System, it sits on the centertunnel, dunno where it would fit in a floor shift car though!

I can't tell from the photo what brand it is, poor scan quality, but it looks rather dazzling :D

There are two different cases for the cassette recorder. One case was made for the hump and the other was made to go on the console. I've had a few the never worked well because the belt inside would strech and the speed for the tape would be off. They are still a well sought after option and bring top dollar in most cases.

My 71 GTX has the cassette option mounted on the console. It works great. I've posted a couple pictures.

I was really asking about a seperate 8 track unit, that is under the dash.
I have a working console cassette option in my 71 Satellite Sebring Plus, love it to. I have seen a few, but most don't work.

I like how you hang your microphone on yours, lol...not doing that with a Satellite!

8 Track Tape Player

Hi Brian,
The only factory 8 track players I've seen have been incorporated right in the radio which of course wouldn't fit in your existing radio spot. You'll probably have to go aftermarket and mount it under the seat or glovebox if you don't want it seen.

Not sure what it was, cuz my dad got rid of it about a month before I got my car, but he had an 8 track system that came with his cuda. I think factory or dealer, but not sure...

I had mine installed from the dealer and was installed above the reverse light in the pic ,which wasn't on my automatic,I wish I had a pic, but it was only the 8 track and wired to the radio. 8)
