performance hood paint

Post by morty318 » Thu Jun 01, 2006 1:33 am

I was always under the impression that all black performance hood paint was the black organasol textured flat paint, including the air grabber bubble, but I see so many smooth flat black air grabber and stripes on 71/72, that now I am beginning to wonder, when I sprayed mine all my research said the textured paint was it, but a guy with a very well restored hemi car, swears the smooth non-textured paint is correct, you guys are the best.. which is it? thanks guys.

I can only respond to this one by referring to the only "survivor" Hemi car I've been around--my buddy Max's '71 RR. Back in the '80s when Max owned this 40,000-some mile beauty the air grabber, wings and rear window slats were ALL textured flat-black organosol...

I agree with Bruce with this clarification. The air grabber bubble was painted black organsol regardless of whether you had the V21 performance hood treatment option or not. The V21 added the organsol blackout from the bubble back to the back of the hood on A/G cars and on standard performance hoods, it added the hood depression pinstripes
