How close are 72 quarter panels to fitting on a 74?

Could one be modified to fit or is it so far off that it's not worth trying?

There are two basic problems.
The quarter panel seam is at the top- almost ( and slightly above) the top pf the windows.
That being said: The rear side window shape from a 72 to a 73 is drastically different. The 72 sweeps slightly forward where the 73 is more square. I would guess the substructure was changed in that area also- but I don't know for sure.
Second- The quarter it self is more squared off on a 73 and the beltline is wider on a 73/4. Infact I'm not sure if they would line up quarter to door between the two years.
I'm sure it's possible, but do lots of checking and double checking.

not worth trying...save the 72 quarters for someone who needs them on a 71 or 72 and look for 73 or 74 ones...

I now realize 71-72 panels are as hard to find as 73-74's are. Oh well I am still thinking of new ideas.

I have to look again but I saw last year there is a place restamping the rear quarters for 73/74 Road Runners and a bunch of "new" parts that i previously couldn't find.
If I find it I'll post it up but it does exist.

Thanks Mike, I look forward to the info. Would be much nicer to start with new stuff that does not require rust repair.
