My red 72 car has a horizontal chrome handle. The Blue 72 I had before was vertical built in April I believe.

"This unit uses a vertical plastic handle. Please note: There are many cosmetic changes to this part. The first early 1971 cars used a chrome diecast handle. The early 1972 cars used a horizontal handle. The mid 1972-74 cars used a vertical handle. All are completely interchangeable. The handle orientation is a cosmetic thing. "
