Mine cost me about 300, I gave my shop the block, crank, pistons. They diped the block to remove internal gunk, washed it really nice, bored it 30 over, they put in new crank seals, cam seals, ballanced the crank, installed the 30 over pistons, all i did was installed the heads, cam timing chain and everything else on the block. And I also painted the block and heads. Also had them do a 3 angle valve job and new valve guides. I installed the rest on the heads.Mostly used MPP parts including the cam.aerodynamic wrote:Not too bad I guess for mostly picking away at it for a few weeks. This engine was so ugly and everything leaked, I can't wait to see it back where in belongs. Total cost about $200.

Good news and bad news. I finally got everything back in it and fired it up with coolant in it, belts on it and so forth. Got timing set, carb adjusted, running pretty good. I saw fluid dripping near the trans and thought at first my new rear main was leaking. Turns out it was trans fluid (phew!), leaking from the shifter seal. It's supposed to be a recent rebuild. I should have changed the seals anyway when I had it out. Then, as the engine warmed up, I kept hearing a hissing sound on the headers. Turns out almost every exhaust stud on the heads has coolant coming out of it. I knew most went into the coolant ports, but the old studs didn't have sealer on them so I figured they'd hold. They didn't. The sucky thing is the header on the driver side doesn't move much with the engine in place. Guess I'll just have to wrastle the studs out and teflon seal them. And I thought about doing that while the engine was on the stand too! Grrr lol
