Well, whatever it was it's gone now. It crumbled off with a simple push of the finger. It was on the floor pan seal on the sides, rear , and front of both forward and rear floor pans.

After sanding and prepping, I'll rust bullet everything then seal it with the Por 15 putty just for continuity sake.

I'll be posting pics of before and after rust bullet with the new interior installed on my Cardomain site.

I figure it'll be easier to post there and link to it should anyone want to see progress.

So far, Ive rebuilt the steering column and repainted it satin black, removed the standard gauge and reconditioned it, gutted the entire interior, removed the body plugs and trashed 'em. Tomorrow will be the day my interior bites the rust bullet!

I used Eastwood rust converter on the floor pan of my car - it was basically surface rust with a little blistering, but nothing had eaten through. A good scouring with a brass wheel and a heavy spray coating of Eastwood stuff should do for a while.

my 73 SSP had the same stuff in the floors. i think there was a change in the factory seam sealer in 73, and it really really sucked!!!!! mine has let go in every imaginable place, the worst being the cabin wall/cowl wall seam in front of the door hinges on either side. because they put the seam sealer on before painting the bodies, mine is peppered with pin holes down that seam on each side where the water stayed trapped behind the loose seam sealer.......you guessed it.....time to do some welding! what gets me is that i've had numerous rusty 71 and 72 models that the seam sealer was still intact on, and here i am with a virtually rust free 73, and it's rotting behing the seam sealer! what a bummer! :(
