Well in this case, they were blatantly trying to screw me. They wanted over $1000 for a full brake job and that didn't include the u-joints (which they didn't mention until I was getting in the car to limp it down the street to my brother's place). As I said before, I think they planned to take me for the 4 brakes and then say 'oh, look, your u-joints are broken, that's another $$$' when the car was disassembled and I was over a barrel.
The one guy (big burly pushy dude, typical corrupt repair shop twit) wouldn't even talk to me after I finally said I wasn't paying for all four brakes and to take the car down off the lift and put it back together. They did get their $130 from me for their 'inspection fee'.
