manual hood release mechanism

Post by hmiller79 » Sat Nov 10, 2007 10:39 pm

Hello,
I have a question. My roadrunner has the standard manual hood release and NOT the dash mounted interior release. what kind of handle is supposed to be attached to the manual hood release mechanism? I have a rod running from my hood latch mechanism out past the center grill about 2". The rod is bent at the end kind of like a hook. Is this correct? I can not find any info on the internet and figured somebody else on here had a manual hood release car like mine. Thanks.

What you have is correct, there is no handle other than the bent rod.

Hood Latch Rod

Here's a closeup pix of the rod, all except the bottom which is nothing more than a 90 degree bend. It only fits in ONE way as the curve in the middle has to clear the center grille (honeycomb) mount.

Does the rod come out through the center grill, or does it come out below the bumper?

Below the bumper at the opening in the front valance. There should be a bracket bolted to the bumper with a hole in it for the rod.
