Windshield and back glass molding clips

Post by taguy4 » Fri Aug 16, 2019 4:58 pm

Does the windshield and back glass take the same molding clips to hold the trim on on a '73 RR? Most places sell the same clips for both. When I installed the clips on the back glass opening the top of them ended up just below the the outer body surface. When I install those same model clips on the windshield opening the top of the clips on the sides of the windshield are slightly ABOVE the outer A-pillar surface, and the ones on the top are about even with the roof top surface. It seems like the windshield trim wouldn't sit right then. It almost looks like the windshield takes shorter clips.

Any insight into this would be much appreciated.

Hope someone can help out here - I am not quite to this step yet. When we did my buddy's 69 Runner, the windshield clips were different than the back glass clips.

I needed a few replacement clips, since I was missing a handful between front and rear. For a 71, I'd say front and rear are the same. But the new clips I bought were not quite the same as the originals. I tried 2 or 3 different sources. I wound up altering some a little. They do seem to have a little vertical "slop". If you had to, you could remove the old studs and put in the pop-rivet type at the height you need.
