Hood release

Post by GTX158 » Wed Sep 24, 2014 4:51 pm

Can anyone tell what hole the hood release goes thru in the firewall on a 71 non a/c car? The hole on a a/c car is next to speedo hole and is about 5/8 inch. :help: I don't want to drill a hole if I don't have to.

There is a hole right to the left of the booster mount that a manual washer pump hose went through, look, and see if that looks right.

Yes looked into that earlier and that could work, but the hole is way large and gourmet on hood release falls right thru, maybe there's a gourmet that will work. I know there HAS be a few guys that have come across this. Open to ideas

Do like I did, get a grommet without a hole, and just the cut hole the size you need. On cars without anything in that hole it had a hole less grommet.

I think it's actually under the booster - let's see if I can remember to check..........

Unfortunately, I can't provide good info. I routed mine through a hole just under the center of the booster. There was an oblong grommet through that hole. I left that, and jammed the grommet on the release cable into it, but it's not really secure. The grommet on the cable looks like the OD of the main "barrel" is about 5/8", give or take. That grommet has a shoulder or flange on the handle end which is about 1-1/4" OD.

My GTX is non-A/C. I don't see an obvious opening around 5/8". On the outboard side of the booster, up high there is a hole about 7/8" or so. I think it had a cap-plug in it. I'm using it for wiring to and from the ammeter replacing the wiring in the bulkhead connector.

Someone on this site must have the answer..........

Cable goes to the left of the speedo cable and comes out below the booster. If your car didn't come with it there should be a dimple where to drill the hole.
Trying to post a pic but is too large. My stupid computer won't let me re-size it. Says a sharing violation occurred what ever the #^%@# that means.

Did you use paint to resize it? Get a Photobucket account and you can resize it there.

I just click on edit and then re-size. Never had it do this before.

Ok I tried again and it worked. Computers are evil. Well I got it down to 612KB and still to large. Tried to re-size again and got that stupid message. Man this site takes small pictures. Yes I'm using paint. I stay in my little realm.

Welcome back Mark! I knew you would have the answer for this one.
Try saving it as a .JPG file instead of a .BMP

Thanks Eric.
I have no idea how to do that. After 10 years of using my old Kodak camera I now have a Galaxy 4 phone.
Says that it is a JPEG image like the Kodak pics.
They should call them dummy phones cuz that's what I fell like.
