Hi all,

I finally got my car up on the lift the other day and had a good look around. I was going to try to figure out what gears were in it, so I jacked up the rear so the wheels could spin, and tried to count the turns. Problem was, it seemed like it slipped as I spun the driveshaft, so I couldn't do an accurate count. It wasn't total slippage, just enough to prevent me from counting. It's definitely posi though, both wheels spun the same way.

Is this normal?

sounds like your unit may need rebuilt. the unit shouldnt slip under that minimal amount of stress. Turning in your car yes, turning the wheel by hand, no.

Does your rear end have an axle tag on the upper left hand side of the pumpkin?

I'll have to check on that tag, I didn;t think to look there when I had it up. I'll probably rebuild it anyway, I don't know what it's been through with the previous owners.

Yeah, If its "slipping" that may indicate chewed up ring or pinion gear. Not good.
